MY HERO
"OLIVER"
YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER

Yes my man has been to war,
And yes it changed him some.
For one day he was in battle,
The next day he was home.

Behind him were the memories,
To hard to think upon.
Of buddies still there fighting,
Would they one day make it home.

The thoughts of death he witnessed,
Well he pushed them way down low.
"If I try not to remember,
The pain will surely go".

He tried to keep a secret,
Of the nightmares he endured.
The rages were nothing personal,
His friends he reassured.

His first wife tried to cope,
Though she didn't understand.
This stranger that came home to her.
Was surely not her man.

Another wife another life,
And the nightmares still went on.
Lord it's been 20 years,
The demons should be gone.

Now two wives and a country,
Had turned their backs on him.
How does one find the courage,
To reach out once again?

One day it just happened,
A new love began to grow
. How and why he toughed it out,
This girl will never know.

We learned to trust together,
And confided all our fears.
With love and understanding,
We dried each others tears.

Oh the demons still rear their ugly head,
Every now and then.
But we meet them head on,
Together till the end.

More than somebody
on whom I depend,
More than a lover,
more than a friend,
More than the reason
for all that I do---
My husband and my partner
my own special you!
I confided my dreams,
and you made them come true.
I told you my secrets,
but you already knew.
I held out my hand,
and you touched it with care.
In so many ways,
you have always been there.
So my life's celebration
is a good way to say
That my love for you grows
with every new day?
